A beautiful spot in a stunning setting with the historic hills of Sintra as a backdrop. It is very close to Lisbon and does get crowded, particularly on the weekend. The vibe is friendly in my experience despite the numbers.

Guincho is the indicator beach for all the breaks in Lisbon but can be badly affected by the prevailing NW winds in summer. A popular windsurfing spot on occasion. I've only visited here about 15 times but the surf seems quite consistent with some punch when it gets head high. There are numerous peaks breaking left and right. Sometimes cold fog can drift annoyingly across the beach when Lisbon is basking in hot sun.

Parking is right by the beach and there are good cafes, and fish restaurants in the area. Hotels are a short drive away unless you can afford the crazy prices of the 5* Moorish castle that sits next to the surf.
