Carrownisky in Mayo and Achill Island is a fairly exposed beach break that is often working and works all around the year. The best wind direction is from the east and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Easily blown out by onshore winds Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the west northwest. The beach break provides left and right handers. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It's sometimes crowded here. Surfing here means negotiating dangerous rips.
