Mikotai in Taranaki is a quite exposed beach and reef break that only works once in a while. Autumn and winter are the best times of year for waves. Offshore winds blow from the east with some shelter here from southeast winds. Groundswells and windswells are equally likely and the ideal swell angle is from the west southwest. There is no beach break as well as left and right hand reef breaks. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Hazards include urchins, rips, rocks and sharks.
