Rob Lewis heads out at Wharaiki on the second day of Cyclone Pam north swell. The wind began SE offshore and later fell light. We didn't get out until it got dark after enjoying the best Wharariki conditions we have seen. Well overhead sets that focused strongly on distinct peaks. As the tide dropped a touch it became very hollow. Sadly no images of the best of it.

Mark Nichols | Great to see, Always wonder what this coast does on "Nelson" Swells wonder what para para was doing? [Editor replies: Good point. We didn't even look. That coast sometimes shows very long period swells about a foot high as well as local east stuff. We never figured whether these are Tasman Sea swells refracted around Farewell Spit, South Swells getting through Cook Strait, or even a west coast swell reflected off Whanganui coast] |
